The late Lord Alistair McAlpine was an English aristocrat and politician who fell in love with Broome. He adopted this faraway land as his home and famously purchased the land on which Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa now sits by signing the contract on the back of a beer coaster at the Roebuck Bay pub. This uniquely Broome beginning started what is today Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa. The Resort first opened in May 1988.
Today, Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa is owned by Western Australian-based property company, Hawaiian, owned by the Wen family. The company has proudly owned and managed the Resort since 1999 and since first acquiring the property, has invested over $20 million in refurbishments to the Resort by providing major upgrades to the Kimberley Pool, Sunset Bar and Grill and creating new room types, including the Private Villas and Pool Terrace Studio Rooms.
The Wen family have a long history of philanthropy and since joining the Broome and Kimberley community through Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, the family have invested significantly in indigenous eye health programs and conservation work in the region.
