A LIST Guide's favourite events of 2018.

With 2018 almost over, we’ve rounded up the top 5 events that wowed us this year with everything from adult-sized ball pits to surprise celebrity appearances.

1. Xerocon 2018

Software company Xero took its annual conference to new heights this year, with a show-stopping event that was hailed the “Coachella” of conferences.

Proving corporate conferences don’t have to be boring, Xero partnered with brand communications agency INVNT to deliver the event at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Highlights included a adult-sized ball pit with over 250,000 balls, a TED-inspired speaker program, a Xero-branded basketball court and a ‘Brisvegas’ wrap-up party.

2. Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park relaunch

Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park celebrated its major refurbishment and new ‘Grand’ status with an extravagant soiree this year.

The hotel’s events floor was completely transformed into themed rooms, such as a Martini Lounge and Supper Club.

In the Martini Lounge, guests were treated to a mini dining experience, while at the Supper Club, wine and charcuterie platters were served to guests while they enjoyed live stage performances.

3. CINZ Fright Night

New Zealand’s business events industry got the fright of their lives this year at a horror-movie themed dinner.

The event was held as part of the Conventions and Incentives New Zealand (CINZ) annual conference, which was well-timed to coincide with Halloween.

Guests got amongst the theme, Fright Night at the Museum, with the Auckland War Memorial Museum the perfect location for the spooky soirée.

4. W Brisbane’s launch party

W Brisbane rolled out the “black carpet” for its official premiere party, which saw more than 800 guests attend.

The five-star hotel was transformed into a glitzy party venue, with the theme ‘All that glitters is golden’ running throughout the event.

Guests were treated to delicious food and flowing Champagne, plus a number of live performances scattered around the hotel.

The highlight of the launch party was a surprise performance by pop duo The Veronicas in the hotel’s main event space, The Great Room.

5. QHA Awards for Excellence

The Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) brought the outdoors in for their 2018 Awards for Excellence.

Encore Event Technologies was the creative team behind the event, who were tasked with transforming a ballroom at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre into a summer beer garden.

More than 1100 guests attended the event, which was inspired by the atmosphere of a sun-soaked beer garden, complete with lush greenery, festoon lighting and a custom stage set.
