Howard Smith Wharves continues to draw crowds to Brisbane’s riverside, appealing to consumers and corporate groups alike with its line up of bars, restaurants and event spaces.
The precinct has now revealed details about a new bar and dining venue that will open later this year.
Restaurateur Jonathan Barthelmess, who currently runs Greek restaurant Greca at Howard Smith Whaves, has announced he will take over the vacant space next door to open a Japanese izakaya and bar.
Nestled in between Greca and soon-to-open Stanley, the new two-storey venue is inspired by Barthelmess’ travels in Tokyo, where he owns another Greek restaurant, The Apollo.
The restaurant will feature a raw section based on sustainable seafood, specially sourced and selected Wagyu beef and an extensive sake and wine list. A vinyl bar with an extensive whiskey list will be located upstairs.
“We love being part of Howard Smith Wharves where the huge success of Greca has taken us all by surprise,” said Barthelmess.
“By taking the restaurant space next door we can grow and strengthen our team and invest more into the Brisbane dining scene.”
More details, including the venue’s name, chef and direction, will be released ahead of the restaurant’s scheduled opening in October.
