Compass Group Australia has recently collaborated with OzHarvest, to launch their joint Stop Food Waste campaign. OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue charity, while Compass operate across 480 sites across Australia, including its fine cuisine and hospitality company Restaurant Associates, or RA. This arm includes venues like Melbourne Museum, Melbourne Zoo and Sydney Town Hall.
They’ll be encouraging their suppliers to carefully plan food consumption and minimise waste, by improving food ordering guides, planning menus accurately and implementing creative solutions for repurposing good food. By doing this Compass Group will continue to improve food sustainability, while also conserving agricultural resources with the silver lining of saving client’s money. Wherever possible, any food that is surplus will also be offered to OzHarvest.
Around 3 million tonnes of food is wasted every year within the commercial and industry food sector alone, so this commitment from Compass Group to become OzHarvest’s first and major national food service donor is a step towards influencing change.
